Traffic accidents are one of the main disasters caused by accidental human action. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are more than 3,500 deaths every day (over 1,300,000 deaths per year) and 50 million people are injured every year as a result of traffic accidents. If urgent measures are not adopted, the injuries caused in these accidents will become the fifth cause of death and main cause of death for people aged 15 to 29 by 2030.
The United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution in October 2005 encouraging Governments to declare the third Sunday of November as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, with the purpose of remembering victims of traffic accidents and the hard situations that families facing the emotional consequences and results of these tragic events go through.
We will commemorate this year’s World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on November 19. As in previous years, Fundacion MAPFRE will participate in the commemoration of this day.
We invite you to share this video with your friends and family so we can all reach our ambitious objective of reducing the rate of fatal traffic accidents to zero.
