The Chairman and CEO of MAPFRE opens the tenth edition of Insurance Europe’s International Insurance Conference, held today in Madrid
The Chairman and CEO of MAPFRE, Antonio Huertas, this morning highlighted the important role of insurance in the economic and social development of countries during his speech to open the tenth International Insurance Conference, being held today in Madrid, which has been organized by Insurance Europe
In the words of Huertas, insurance plays a threefold role in its contribution to wealth generation in society: “The first of these is protecting against and compensating for risks. The second role is that of financial savings and investment managers, stimulating the creation of capital in the economy. And finally, insurers also act as country financers through our investment in national debt.”
Antonio Huertas also referred to compliance with insurance regulations and stated that it would be desirable for global developments in the field of financial regulation, whether in terms of accounting or prudence, to be considered in light of their direct impact on the role that insurers play in the economy.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the Minister for Justice, Rafael Catalá, the Chairwoman of UNESPA, Pilar Fernández de Frutos, and the Chairman of Insurance Europe, Andreas Brandstetter. Insurance Europe is the European insurance and reinsurance federation. Through its 35 member agencies, made up of national insurance associations, Insurance Europe represents all insurance and reinsurance companies.
