The move aims to shore up these two important development areas within MAPFRE, in accordance with the strategy announced at the last Annual General Meeting
MAPFRE INVERSIÓN, MAPFRE’s securities company, recently brought in Alberto Matellán as the new head economist and José Antonio Méndez Roth as senior manager of equities at MAPFRE AM.
Mr. Matellán has over 15 years’ experience in the sector, carrying out investment strategy and analysis functions at companies such as Inverseguros and JB Capital Markets. He will work from the Madrid offices, under the guidance of Javier Lendines, General Manager of MAPFRE INVERSIÓN.
Mr. Méndez Roth, who has worked in the sector for over 20 years, served as Managing Director at Insignium Iberia for nearly three years. Prior to that, he managed collective investment schemes at March Gestión.
These new hires form part of MAPFRE’s global investment strategy, as does the recently-announced creation of an investment platform in Luxembourg, for developing international products. The MAPFRE Group has balance sheet assets of over 65,000 million euros and boasts a team of 150 investment and direct management professionals in 29 countries.
MAPFRE’s Studies Service has recently brought in Gonzalo de Cadenas as expert manager of macroeconomic and financial analysis, and Ricardo González as expert manager in the Analysis, Sector Studies and Regulation Area.
Mr. de Cadenas has 16 years’ experience in various economic research institutes, including the German Institute for Economic Research and the studies services of CEMEX, Santander and BBVA Research, where he was the chief economist and emerging markets analysis coordinator.
Mr. González is an economist and has worked most of his career in the area of prudential and regulatory supervision of insurance and pension fund undertakings. In the European Commission, he helped prepare and adopt the technical rules derived from the Solvency II Directive.
Created in October 2015, MAPFRE’s Studies Service aims to become a benchmark in public debates on insurance and social protection, macroeconomics and finance, and regulation. The service is headed by Manuel Aguilera, who has served as Chairman of the Comisión Nacional de Seguros y Fianzas de México, Mexico’s insurance and surety bond regulator, and Chairman of the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) Insurance and Private Pensions Committee.
