MAPFRE volunteers dedicated more than 20,000 hours to emergency action and assistance in the event of disasters as well as activities related to nutrition, health and education, thus reaffirming their commitment to these social initiatives. Up to last September nearly 600,000 people, primarily at risk of social exclusion, in 23 countries benefited from these initiatives, and the various campaigns conducted raised more than 48,000 euros.
One of the main volunteering activities was the assistance provided to nearly 93,000 victims of the Ecuador earthquake. Among the actions carried out in Spain, 20 volunteers dedicated more than 200 hours to support activities aimed at making the hospital stay of nearly 550 children more pleasant.
Meanwhile, over the last few months nearly 12 tons of food have been collected, and for the first time ever volunteers have been able to take their teenager children along to help out at soup kitchens. Other activities in which volunteers have also taken part include offering psychosocial support, financial education, tutoring, construction of housing, training for employment, fire prevention, road safety, and prevention of harassment on social media.
MAPFRE also took part in Corporate Solidarity Day last October and was the company with the largest number of active volunteers in Spain.
Among the main global activities were the MAPFRE 24-Hour Donation campaign, which was conducted worldwide last June to coincide with World Blood Donor Day and benefited more than 5,600 patients thanks to all the donations made, and the commemoration of World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on November 20 through the Objetivo Cero campaign.
MAPFRE volunteers also took part in the Fundación MAPFRE Solidarity Month, held in November. Conducted simultaneously in different countries, this initiative revolved around the SOS Respira program, a campaign to prevent deaths from choking.
The MAPFRE corporate volunteering program is implemented through the Fundación MAPFRE VOLUNTEERS Program. Volunteering is aligned with the Group’s strategy and one of MAPFRE’s main goals is to become a global benchmark in corporate solidarity.
